Everything today has got modernized and more technologically advance. Even the music in India has gone through tremendous changes taste wise as well as technology wise. Today the music is louder and is subject to westernization. There were days when the melodious songs in the voices of Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosale were played everywhere. These songs are a treat to listen to even today. These songs musically are so intricately directed. Slow romantic songs in Mohammed Rafi’s voice with an amazing tune to it still have the power to take the listeners into a state of trance. Even the lyrics for these classic Hindi songs have been written so beautifully that they completely mesmerize the listener.

The youth today prefer listening to music that is loud. Genres of music like hip-hop, rock and metal are the ones which are gaining more listenership with each passing day. A large sect of the youth tends to listen to this music because of their peers. They want to ‘fit-in’ with the crowd. If a young teenage boy still prefers listening to the golden music of the old times, he is made fun of by his group of friends who are involved with heavy metal or rock music. This music also has a large number of genuine followers. Considering the bollywood music today, a majority of the tunes are copied and clearly picked up from the other languages. This music lacks melody; it is more about just getting noticed and not calmly enjoying. The lyrics have had a massive downfall. There are lyrics like ‘Munni Badnaam’ and ‘Sheila ki Jawani’ which couldn’t have been imagined in the olden times of great music. Today, there are shows like Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and Indian Idol which give the youth a platform to showcase their talent and to become an Indian playback singer

. Some people come on these shows just to get noticed by a production house, while the others come with sheer thrill of watching themselves on television. These shows offer huge prize money and music contracts as well. Also some contestants on these shows are really good and have versatile voices and these talent shows have acted as great opportunities for them in taking a step forward towards their decided career.

Today there are many Indian Singers like

Sonali Rathod

, sunidhi chauhan, Alka Yagnik etc. who are inspiring youngsters with their versatile voice.
