The first thing to do is to test your soil. Local gardening centers often sell do it yourself soil tests in convenient and easy to follow packets. The results will tell you how much and what kind of nutrients will your flower require. Do not skip this step.
Choose flowers that will effectively grow in your climate. Also, decide if you are going to use seeds, bulbs or starter plants. Seeds may take a longer time but they provide a variety of choices.
The next thing to do is to tend your soil. Start off by tiling the soil and removing all debris and rocks. Break off your soil with a shovel and finally rake your soil to give it a smooth and even surface.
Plant your seeds, bulbs or starter plants deep in your soil. Make sure that they are fastened enough so they won’t wiggle around or fall over. This requires little elbow grease so don’t fret.
Water your plants once every 2 days. However, check your flower beds every day. If they feel dry to the touch, opt to water them. Giving them a good drink of water is essential for their full growth.
Again, read the instructions at the back of your flower seed or bulb package. It indicates how much water your flower needs on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
Feed the soil. Yes, we are talking about fertilizer. You can buy good quality fertilizer at your local gardening center or you can use the compost of your pets. Fresh fertilizer is better.
Tip # 1: Teach your pets, if you have any, to potty train. Give them a designated container or place to do their business. Afterwards, you can collect and transfer these goods to your flowers. It’s economical and inexpensive. Of course it won’t hurt to give your cat or dog a treat or two for their cooperation.
Tip # 2: Dried leaves can also make good fertilizer. Scatter them on your flower pots and beds whenever you can find them.
Bring a new happiness to your life by starting a flower garden. Equip yourself with the best tools, fertilizer, sunny spot, seeds and water to help you ace this endeavor. Be happy everyday as you tend, smell and maintain your beautiful and colorful new babies.
